You may wish to look for a book in the following libraries by Anne Quinby Dyni (former Niwot Historical Society president and local historian), Niwot, Colorado: Echoes From a Railroad Town, copyright 1994. In any library, you may also want to check the most recent available yearly edition of the Directory of Genealogical and Historical Libraries, Archives and Collections in the US and Canada by Dina C. Carson. This includes mention of the Niwot area documents available. The most recent edition is 2008, but Niwot is listed in the 2006 edition.
COLORADO HISTORICAL SOCIETY LIBRARY
The Colorado Historical Society Library, housed in the Denver History Museum, maintains a collection of newspapers on microfilm; it also houses census records, birth and death records for all Colorado Counties. Many of these can be found online and can be accessed through the archives at the CoGenWeb site.
The microfilm newspapers include the Niwot Tribune weekly, from Aug. 1 of 1921 through 1958, as well as several Boulder area and Longmont periodicals.
Additionally the Library offers an online historic newspaper collection (complete articles and entries). Unfortunately, there is not as of this writing (May, 2008) a Niwot specific newspaper included online. This may change in the future as information is added to their online database. Meanwhile, the online collection does include available Longmont and Boulder newspapers from 1859 through 1923.
The Stephen H. Hart Library at the Colorado Historical Society is closed Sunday and Monday. Other days it is open to the public. You may contact a research librarian at 303-866-2305, or by email at research@chs.state.co.us.

Their phone is 303-441-3110; they are open on Mondays 1-9, Tuesday 11-5, Wednesday 9-5, Thursday through Saturday 11-5 and they are closed on Sunday. They offer a large part of their Boulder County photographs collection online. The manager and research librarian is Wendy Hall, and you may email her at HallW@boulder.lib.co.us. Wendy says of the Niwot collections listed online:
If you click on the audiotape that you want (click on the title), the cataloging information will show up. Right in the middle there is a box that says: Available online. Click here to access online audio of interview If you have highspeed internet, you can listen to the audio portion online. On the left will be a transcript or summary of the interview, and you can scroll down to the portion that talks about Niwot. Click on the % number and the interview will jump to that spot, or close to it.
Everything in the database that comes up with a match for "Niwot" will have something about Niwot in it. You just need to click on the title to see what the catalog says about it. Some photographs in the collection have been digitized, and they will automatically come up when you click on the title. We also have a vertical file of clippings on Niwot that are not in the computer, as well as real estate appraisal cards done by the Boulder County Assessor's Office in the late 1940's, which include photographs of each structure in Niwot, that are not in the database."
The Boulder Public Library main branch is open Monday through Thursday 10-9, Friday and Saturday 10-6, and Sunday noon-6. You may call the main branch at 303-441-3100, or contact a research librarian at ask@boulder.lib.co.us
